  • Phone battery swelling — what to do before it punctures

Do not press on the screen. Stop charging and plan safe disposal or professional replacement.

    Difficulty: Moderate · ~30 min
    1. Stop charging immediately

A swollen lithium cell can rupture the display or frame. Power off if safe; do not squeeze the phone flat.

    2. Back up if possible

If the phone still boots, copy photos and files now. Swelling often worsens quickly.

    3. Do not DIY puncture

Never drill or crush a swollen pack. We can replace the battery with proper adhesive and seals.

    4. Recycle responsibly

Many county hazardous-waste sites accept lithium cells. We can also recycle through the shop when you drop off for repair.
